Have you even bought something at the grocery store that you feel inspired to use more in your gluten free cooking or baking….bring it home and it just sits in your fridge or your pantry? I bought a giant bag of almond flour at Costco about a month ago and it sat there….it’s potential completely untapped. Why? Because I didn’t have any ideas of how to use it. Can you relate?
Turns out, almond flour is wonderful! It’s a gluten free flour that can be used for a wide assortment of baking. Because it is not made with a grain, this flour is popular with people on a paleo diet. Almond flour is a great gluten free flour to use because it is higher in fat (a healthy plant based fat that makes your baking moist and delicious) and higher in protein and fibre than most other gluten free grains. It has a slightly sweet and nutty flavour which lends itself nicely to baking.
I have also found that it works wonderfully a breadcrumb replacement – use it as a coating on chicken breast or as a filler for meatballs or patties. Replace 1/4 to 1/2 cup of flour in baking for a nice texture and nutritious boost.
Buying your almond flour online can help save you money. Remember for those needing a gluten free diet, you must get an almond flour that is certified gluten free. Here are my favourite places to buy gluten free almond flour:
